30 Hour Famine 2007

Grace FMC of McConnell Youth Group 30 Hour Famine

The youth group from Grace FMC participated in a 30 hour famine for World Vision on May 11 and 12.  The purpose of the Famine is to raise awareness among young people of hunger and poverty issues around the world.  The Famine lets kids do their part to help others by having them get pledges for their participation in the weekend.  We had 10 kids (and some adults) who gave up eating from lunch on Friday until supper on Saturday. The kids spent the night at the church and did several activities.

World Vision encourages youth groups to incorporate a service project into the weekend.  The Grace youth used this opportunity to coordinate with the Freeport, IL Habitat for Humanity project.  They built a storage shed that will go on the property of the new Habitat house being built this year.  In this way the kids were able to help people far away and locally.
