Punkin Chunkin 2006

McConnell Grace FMC Youth Group at Morton, IL “Punkin Chunkin” Contest

The youth group showed up in Morton with the objective of throwing a 4-pound pumpkin over 412 feet. The first throw fell short by at least 20 feet. With some minor adjustments, the second pumpkin was air-born, but would it be far enough? The throw looked good. Then it was time to wait as the spotters measured for distance. The radio crackled and the distance of 499 feet came over the airwaves. They had accomplished what they set out to do. It had been a tough day of setting up. After all, only Two weeks earlier the trebuchet laid on the ground as the upright supports had failed and splintered into peices. To get a throw over last year was a great accomplishment, yet if the problems that arose this year are addressed, next years throw should be even farther. They will need to add better than 250 feet to pass the first place throw in their division.

A big thank you to everyone who supported the youth in this endeavor. Those who showed up to cheer them on was greatly appreciated along with the chaperones and drivers who help to get all the youth down there. Also, thank you to everyone who helped in surprising the youth with the team t-shirts.
